2021 Bordeaux En Primeur

We pay very close attention to what our clients are buying and are sometimes surprised by what we see. 2021 Bordeaux has become more lively than anyone predicted, and last week we saw a big jump in interest as some of the most notable houses finally released their wines. This will be our last futures offering, and thus your final chance to reserve some wonderful, low production, high quality wines, and at unusually low prices.

We were incredibly fortunate to have traveled to Bordeaux and tasted this vintage, and not just because of COVID easing up. As we’ve said all along, 2021 Bordeaux is special, a true collector’s vintage from the châteaux that knew how to work with it: old school, elegant, both drinkable and ageable. Alcohols are between 12 and 13 percent, and wine profiles are almost uncannily alike those of the 1980s, classically styled and generous but restrained. However, crop losses were as high as 70% for some estates, so there is very little wine available. As word begins to spread after the en primeur campaign is over and these wines are released—that 2021 produced some extraordinary wines, despite the unfair blanket criticism of the vintage—we expect these wines to disappear from the market… and what does become available will be priced for scarcity.

We're thrilled to offer all four First Growths releasing this year—Lafite, Mouton, Margaux, and Haut-Brion—with Latour not releasing until 2029. Today's list includes superstars like La Mission Haut-Brion, Cos d’Estournel, and Ducru-Beaucaillou. We also have some of the fastest surging estates in the region, like Figeac, La Conseillante, Haut-Bailly, and L’Eglise-Clinet. Other names you will not want to overlook include Calon-Ségur, Clinet, Gruaud Larose, and Beausejour Duffau. If you don’t see what you are looking for here, please check with us immediately, as we might still be able to get it… and maybe yet another six-pack for ourselves.
